The Week In Review

March 2-8

Sacramento State (9-6, 0-0)

Sacramento State beat Pacific 6-2, lost to UC Irvine 2-0, lost to UC Irvine 3-2, UC Irvine.

Jorge Bojorquez, Dawsen Bacho and Hunter Dorraugh (Vacaville) homered in the win over Pacific. Freshman right-hander Eli Saul made his first start and got the win. In the 2-0 loss to UC Irvine, the Hornets had no answer for Trenton Denholm (Oak Ridge), who pitched six shutout innings. Bacho had a two-run double in the first inning of the second UCI game, however, the Hornets were blanked the rest of the way. In the finale against UCI, Travis Adams, Brady Rodriguez (Oak Ridge) and Stone Churby combined on a three-hit shutout and Steven Moretto homered to avoid the sweep.

UC Davis (9-6, 0-0)

UC Davis beat Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 5-2, lost to Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 8-5, beat Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 15-3.

Junior right-hander Brett Erwin ran his record to 2-0, allowing two runs over six innings, and J.D. Mico (McClatchy, Cosumnes River) and Kyler Arenado each had two hits in the first game. Spencer Gedestad had three hits for the Aggies in Game 2.  Tanner Murray and Gedestad each had four hits in Game 3.

This week: Tuesday at St. Mary’s,3 p.m. Friday at Cal Baptist, 6 p.m. Saturday at Cal Baptist, 5 p.m. Sunday at Cal Baptist, 1 p.m.

American River (9-11, 2-4)

American River lost to Modesto 7-5, lost to Modesto 6-3, lost to Modesto 14-0.

Daniel Paiz (Pioneer), Cole Hurtarte (Whitney), Jonah Ira (Laguna Creek) and Hayden Erickson (Whitney) each had two hits in Game 1. Erickson had two hits in Game 2.  Paiz had two of the Beavers six hits in Game 3.

This week: Tuesday at Delta, 2:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Delta, 2:30 p.m. Friday at Delta, 2:30 p.m.

Cosumnes River (9-10, 2-4)

Cosumnes River beat Delta 7-6, lost to Delta 22-6, lost to Delta 10-2.

Troy Rice (Capital Christian), Jorge Garcia (Cosumnes Oaks) and Ethan Torres (Liberty Ranch) survived on the mound ant Henry Degnan homered for the one-run win.  The Hawks were out-scored 32-8 in the next two games. Brent Graber (Capital Christian) had a homer in Game 2.

Folsom Lake (13-7, 2-4)

Folsom Lake lost to Diablo Valley 3-2, beat Diablo Valley 8-7, lost to Diablo Valley 11-6.

Trey Furrey (Folsom) had three hits in the one-run loss. After Diablo Valley scored six times in the ninth inning to tie the game, pinch-hitter Braeden Holliday (Granite Bay) stroked a bases-loaded single for the win. Hayato Niki had three hits in Game 2 and four hits in Game 3.

Sacramento City (15-4, 3-3)

Sacramento City beat Santa Rosa 6-3, lost to Santa Rosa 7-1, lost to Santa Rosa 5-4.

Dennis Boatman (Woodcreek) picked up the win and T.J. Wheeler homered in the Game 1 win. Ryan Costeiu (2-1) suffered his first loss in Game 2 as the Panthers were limited to four hits.  Joey Daini homered in the Game 3 one-run loss.

Sierra (15-4, 1-2)

Sierra beat Shasta 7-1.

Haruto Nakano, Chris Cook and Chase Thatcher (Del Oro) each had two hits, Kenny LeBeau (Granite Bay) drove in three runs and nine Wolverines’ pitchers limited Shasta to five hits while striking out 12.
